March 2012 - Disappointment and Success at Bradford

The band achieved 5th place at this year's Regional Championships, playing Goff Richards' "Cross Patonce". There was much of merit in the performance, but the final placing was a little disappointing, given that last year we qualified for the finals. However, the aggregate points amassed in the last three years mean that the band is likely (subject to confirmation) to be promoted to compete in the first section at next year's contest, so the weekend has to be seen as successful overall.

13th July 2011 - London This Weekend

Well into our summer season of concerts, the band is particularly looking forward to this weekend, as we return to the Mayor's Newham Show in East London. The huge gala, held over two days, was a big favourite with players last year and we obviously made a good impression, with the bandstand for this year being relocated to a prime position in the centre of the site. For more details, visit the Newham London Website

13th May 2011 - Major Concert Next Friday

The band's sponsorship deal with the Barnsley Chronicle will get its "official" launch through a major charity concert at St Mary's Church, Barnsley, next Friday, May 20th. The event, in aid of Barnsley Hospice, will be compered by poet, writer and broadcaster Ian McMillan, known as "The Bard of Barnsley". In addition to a full programme from the band, Chronicle editor Robert Cockroft and reporter Mike Cotton will perform some pieces for organ and trumpet. Tickets are available on the door, price £6.00, but can also be bought at a discounted rate in advance from the Chronicle offices on Church Street.

5th March 2011 - Area Contest Success

The band today gained 2nd place at the Yorkshire Regional Championships, thus qualifying for the National 2nd Section Finals. A controlled and spacious reading of Eric Ball's "Resurgam" found favour with the judges and booked our place in the Cheltenham final on September 24th.

20th February 2011 - Area Preparations Well Underway

With the biggest contest of the year fast approaching on March 5th, the band has been rehearsing hard on Eric Ball's classic test piece "Resurgam". This week will see us head out for two rehearsals in different acoustics. On Monday 21st we visit Cudworth Methodist Church, the home of our popular annual autumn concert (8pm, listeners welcome). Then on Thursday  24th we will once again be at Tankersley Welfare Hall for a joint Open Rehearsal with Worsborough Brass, who will present their test piece, "A Little Light Music" by Philip Wilby. Colin Hardy will "adjudicate" and provide his expert advice to both bands. The event starts at 7.30pm and, as last year, guests are most welcome. Location: S75 3AP

27th January 2011 - Chronicle Steps In With New Sponsorship Deal

The band is very pleased to announce that The Barnsley Chronicle has stepped into the void left only last week by the Building Society. This is a very exciting time for the band and we hope that we have a long and successful time under the wing of the Chronicle. The first outing for the band under it's new name will be at the Yorkshire Area in March!
